A lot of the people are pretty broke, though most are willing to add the caveat of privilege being able to basic niceties and even engage in a little treat every once in a while. Some of the trappings that go along with swinging and polyamory, namely the frequent outings, overnight stays at hotels and swing clubs, are things that can add up very quickly. Tonight, Cooper S. Beckett, Dylan Thomas, Chris Pent, Dr. Liz Powell, and Dirty Lola get together to talk about how to swing and date polyamorously while being broke as fuck.

Tonight's Gang Bang the Mailbag is the crew's 37th, and they're doing it in force! Cooper S. Beckett, Dylan Thomas, Ginger Bentham, Dirty Lola, Mister Pent, and Dr. Liz Powell get together to answer your questions! You can send them questions to answer by calling 573-55-SWING (573-557-9464) or sending them an email!

Question 1:

I have recently come to the conclusion there is not a God or at least not the way we see god in most major religions and it was freeing. My husband and I started talking about sex and fantasies and I even tried some of the BDSM stuff but the idea of becoming submissive and giving up my free will even for pretend makes me angry and that stuff makes me want to cry and is the complete opposite of a turn on. I know much of it comes from realizing I was told my WHOLE life I had to be submissive to a man and that he was the head of the household an I am sure you have heard this.

My husband really wants to try pet play. I am not judgmental and I keep trying to encourage him to keep looking for someone to act this fantasy out with. He wants me to do it but even watching the videos makes me feel extremely upset especially if they have sound and are barking orders at their pets. I don’t find it disrespectful for him to want to engage in this what I do find disrespectful is for him to expect me to somehow learn to enjoy it.

He seems to think I will come around like I did with other things like anal sex which I was very against until I took god out of my live entirely and realized it was not a sin. After that it was painful and he thought it was emotional then I heard an episode of swingset that helped me realize the initial pain would go away if i could relax but I always have a little pain. Ever since then he seems to think if I just keep doing something I will eventually learn to like it. He even tries to do things like tell me to sit while I am already sitting and feed me a “treat.” I can't stand it and I have told him so and he just keeps doing it or variations of it. I will put on kitty ears or puppy ears and play dress up but it just seems to drive more of the pushing for more behavior so then I still can't enjoy myself.

The bottom line is that I would really like him to quit trying to make me like things that I have such negative feelings about participating in.

Is there something wrong with me for not being able to enjoy his fantasies? Am I being ridiculous or selfish? I really don’t know anymore I don’t have that false moral compass to guide me anymore.

Question 2:

My husband and I are new to swinging, and I guess you could call us wallflowers. We went to our first club last weekend and just sort of hung out. We're both...reasonably attractive...but didn't get approached at all. I know you always say you should ask for what we want, and it's on us for not doing that, but any other advice for the wallflowers out there?

We're considering your desire trip, and are sorta worried we'd do the same thing at that resort.

Question 3:

My wife and I recently decided to explore the lifestyle. Living in Ottawa there is now really only one active club, we also have become members of a private club, which we truly enjoy in the summer months.

We are still new to this, we are moving slowly, we are more about connections. We enjoy the friends that we have made so far, it is nice to get together with like minded individuals, not having to worry about conversation that at times can become very sexual or hot. Your podcasts have been enlightening about nervousness, rules, boundaries, most of all about inclusiveness.

I am a hetroflexible male and my wife has learned that she is pansexual. The hardest thing we find in the area is that the clubs here are not very open to bisexual men, they also try to exclude single men most times. I understand the reasons that I have been given, they have had and continue to have single men that are too aggressive and do not respect the boundaries.

The one club allows single men on Friday nights. The club also has fetish and kink nights periodically to try and be more inclusive, these events are open to everyone. I feel that I try to be sensitive and caring to everyone. I just think it would be awesome to have an area where everyone can go and have a great, safe and open environment.

My vision would be something something like Oasis in Toronto, but open to everyone, or at least open to all couples, with no bias on gender. To me it would be a start. Thank you for sharing your podcasts, they are very informative.

Question 4:

A couple of years ago my husband asked if we could try a threesome. We were having sexual satisfaction issues due to stress he was dealing with at the time which made me feel insecure.

Recently we've started hooking up with a couple we know. I'm bi and wanted to play with a woman in addition to some swapping. But when it came down to it, I was playing with her and having a great time. Once my husband started playing with her, my insecurities came up and we had a fight because I felt like we rushed into a more intimate level of playing.

The other problem is, I was not attracted to the other husband. And my husband's stress issue reared its ugly head when we played again. The other wife and he were playing she was getting upset about my husband's performance. I wanted to watch and help, which frustrated the other husband.

I really want to be in the lifestyle and I know we really screwed up our approach for the first few times. I feel like a hypocrite about my jealous feelings that come up when I see my husband playing with another woman.

Are we just doomed in the lifestyle? How do you know when to call it quits?

More importantly, how do we approach another couple when I feel like I need so much attention to make sure I feel good?

Question 5:

We're in Detroit and have a group of swingers we play with regularly.

A little bit back, we went to a party where she played solo with a guy without checking in beforehand. I wasn't okay with that, and let her know afterwards. She has played solo in a separate space before and let me know beforehand. So I had assumed she knew to go slow. Mistakes can happen!

Last week we went to a kink party. I saw her kissing the aforementioned solo guy a couple times. But while with me, she excused herself to get a drink when he also did and they instead went to fuck without checking in. I felt abandoned, especially as they continued to play all night.

I told her that I felt betrayed and overlooked, as well as ignored when she reacted defensively without acknowledging my feelings.

We talked the next day without particularly resolving anything and I spun into self loathing and over-analying my actions.I still feel she intentionally ignored me that evening. And there was a huge communication gap between her thinking she was doing me a favor leaving me open to play with others, and the lack of check in and connection I wanted. This is a new level of jealousy I haven't felt before.

Have you ever had this type of situation and how did you handle it?
Could I have dealt with it better at the party?

In an episode recorded September 22nd 2017, Dr. Liz Powell, Dylan Thomas, and Mike Joseph get together to talk about getting back on the horse after loss, or anything else that may have taken them out of dating and playing with people for an extended period of time.

Dylan almost didn't release this episode, but after an extended conversation with both Dr. Liz and Mike, they collectively decided to do it, even though talk during the episode offered few answers. They did however offer one final thought:

Hope.

This week on The Swingset, we return to the scorching 107 degree heat of Austin, Texas, where Ginger and Cooper attended and presented at Camp Ravish. On the last day of Camp, they sat down with several other presenters there, including The Two Knotty Boys, Melissa Jones, Bella LaVey, Rihannon Ixchel, and Miss O Kissed, to talk about the state of affairs for those of us plying a sex positive trade, while skirting around the issue of that big orange thing crashing toward us all.

(A quick note, again we were outside in the heat, so we had both fans and a fountain to contend with, but fuck it, we did it live!) Hope you enjoy!

After tonight's episode, you'll also be able to hear some audio erotica, a short story called Go For Launch - Double Penetration For Science, read by Angela Elmore of the By the Bi Podcast

This past weekend, Cooper S. Beckett and Ginger Bentham flew down to the balmy state of Texas, which greeted them with a 107 degree heat index. But the temperature wasn’t the only thing that was hot that weekend because they were in town for Camp Ravish just outside of Austin – three days and two nights of connecting with like-minded adults in a fun, frisky and judgment free camp setting. We lead the weekend talking about coloring outside the lines and exploring your boundaries in sexuality and kink, and we’re thrilled to bring the audio of this session to The Swingset.

Hope you enjoy!

The Swingset crew is back with another Gang Bang the Mailbag! Cooper S. Beckett, Dylan Thomas, Dr. Liz Powell, Dirty Lola, and Mister Pent answer listener voicemails and emails!

Voicemailbag Question #1 Summary

How can my husband better navigate swinger culture after coming clean from an alcohol addiction?

Voicemailbag Question #2 Summary

How can I be more innovate and interesting with my spanking scenes?

Mailbag Question #1:

I've recently been kicked out of my mom's house and I'm now living at my dad's.

Financially I think I'll be okay, but when I opened up to dad about my work—how my drawings can occasionally be NSFW—he got really... defensive? He basically said he doesn't want it anywhere in the house.

As an artist this is inconvenient, but as a human being it hurts. I wanted to just be honest with him, but he doesn't know that his backward never-talk-about-sex mindset is just harmful.

I just wish I knew the words to explain why, if he wants to protect his kids (16 and 9), my siblings, he needs to be open and teach them about consent—not just to be afraid of sexuality, which they'll just need therapy for later in life.

Thoughts?

Mailbag Question #2:

To be blunt, how do you swing, go to play parties, etc when your body is malfunctioning? Hemmerhoids, yeast infections, UTIs, the like. Do I just put up a "closed" sign when this, um, crap, happens? Help!

Join us for our annual trip and takeover of Desire in Cancun Mexico! On this trip, we curate theme nights, evening entertainment, music, activities, workshops, and more, and strive to bring together straight, bi, pansexual, and gay swingers, polyamorists, nudists, quads, triads, couples, exhibitionists, BDSMers, and those just curious and looking to explore.

The Swingset crew banked so many episodes that they hadn’t recorded for almost two months. For their first night back, they decided to give each other… the business. In addition to talking about tall skinny dudes with big dicks and fisting, they end up discussing poop… a lot. They also talk about lactation, breeding fantasy, some serious ds and humiliation play, waterboarding with juices, impact play with a rubber truncheon, and Macho Man Randy Savage. Prepare yourselves, because Cooper S. Beckett, Dylan Thomas, Dr. Liz Powell, Mike Joseph, and Dirty Lola are here to give you the business.

Cooper S. Beckett, Dylan Thomas, and Ginger Bentham know that the mailbag won't gang bang itself, so they've sat down to answer listener submitted questions for the 35th time!

Question 1:

Great podcast, I enjoy listening to you guys. My boyfriend and I are in an open relationship and it is going very well. My question is about dental dams, he and I don't use condoms when together but we always do with other people. He tried giving me oral using a dental dam just as an experiment and honestly I felt absolutely nothing :( most people don't use them i assume for exactly that reason. At least with condom the man still feels sensation although it's decreased comparing it to dental dam where one feels absolutely nothing, I barely felt he was down there lol. I know giving and receiving oral without a barrier is not the safest specially if involved in this lifestyle but when dental dam sucks so much what other alternatives are there to encourage it's usage. Could it be the brand of dental dam I used? Are there better brands out there that might be a little better.

Question 2:

Just started listening to your podcast and my husband and I are interested in adventuring into this fun world. We visited a sex club not too far away and we had a fun evening together, but it seemed like we were more adventurous than most of the other couples there that night. For the cost of being there, I wondered if we would be able to connect with other couples interested in setting up our own sexual adventure night at a very nice hotel. Am I being naive or is this a possibility? What are your thoughts with your experiences on this? We are open to engaging with others in our sexual play and with other couples.
Kelli

Question 3:

I am on the spectrum of Aspergers. Since I can't easily read people and don't know what they want, I take the approach of "if that was good for you, I'll do it again next time", how do I broach this with other swing partners in a positive way, and avoid repetitive sex?'

Question 4:

This is the most privileged problem one can have, but I have noticed since entering my current open relationship (and trying to enter the local poly community) that there doesn't seem to be much of a place for straight women.

I strongly identify as straight. I don't come from a repressive community (in fact many people in my family know I'm ethically non-monogamous and are very supportive) and I'm not aware of any bias I have against bi women - in fact recently I've reaaaaalllly wished I wanted anything to do with women. It seems a shame to not have the potential to experience half the population.

I haven't experimented with women. And I honestly just do not want to. I have knee jerk negative reactions about the thought of having sex with other women. I feel annoyed by it when couples invite me to play, and I actually have low level violent urges sometimes (not fun ones - like 'I'm going to deck this chick if she keeps touching my waste' urges). I feel the same way about snuggling and kissing - this isn't mere vag-phobia.

I keep hearing this message that no one is all straight and you need to exiperiment to know. But I don't think experimenting is physically or emotionally safe for me.

Should I just accept that, at least for now, I'm straight as an arrow and accept the limitations of that (I see the irony in this statement btw)? What do I say to people who meet my self identification with cynicism? I'm frustrated.

Thank you for listening,

Jaq

The Life on the Swingset crew traveled to Playground 2018: Come Together, and decided to sit together and record one of our traditional "Swingset Bedcast" episodes. Cooper S. Beckett, Ginger Bentham, Dylan Thomas, Dirty Lola, Dr. Liz Powell, Mike Joseph, and Chris Pent sat on two beds, close enough to sweat on, spit on, and spill on each other, and hacked out the last year amongst a crowd of up between ten and twenty Swingset fans!

Touch is powerful. Touch signals and communicates, touch comforts and supports, Touch can be thoughtful...touch can hurt. We feel it when we have it, we feel its absence when we don't, and sometimes we do things that result in us not getting enough of it. Tonight, Dylan Thomas, Dirty Lola, Dr. Liz Powell, and Mike Joseph get together to talk about the power of touch, and the barriers we throw up to touch, and how touch deficits affects us all.

A fair critique of most sex positive gatherings, especially sexuality conferences, is that they are predominantly white. Over the years, significant progress has been made, and PolyDallas Millennium this July 13-15 is on the forefront of programming diversity and encouraging wider ranges of voices. Tonight Ruby Bouie Johnson joins Cooper S. Beckett, Dylan Thomas, Dirty Lola, Dr. Liz Powell, and Mike Joseph to discuss increasing diversity in sexual discussion, sex therapy, and sex positive spaces.

Paths to kink vary pretty wildly. From occasional giggles and smacks on the bottom, to role-playing as students in a classroom begging to be good for the principal, to full suspensions in front of hundreds of people, following our minds and bodies can lead us places we never thought we could go.

Tonight, Sunny Megatron and Ken Melvoin-Berg, co-creators of the American Sex podcast and co-producers of Showtime's Sex with Sunny Megatron, join Dylan Thomas, Dirty Lola, and Dr. Liz Powell to talk about some of the places people can go if they keep an open mind allow their kinks to run wild.

On this episode of Life on the Swingset, The Podcast, we’re going to reflect, not on the horrors of the year that everybody among us so well knows, but what this year specifically has shown us, in our sexuality, in our interpersonal interactions, in our lifestyles, and then we’ll look forward on how we build and improve in the new year. Those of us young in the world and in non-monogamy don't spend a lot of time thinking about aging and in how it affects our play partners, our relationships, and our own sexuality as we progress. During Life on the Swingset's takeover of Desire Resort, Dylan Thomas sat down with Belle Shepherd, Joel Kann, Ken Haslam, and Duncan to discuss as a panel how sexuality changes with age.

Some featured discussion points:

Changes in Spontaneous Desire | Iimportance of Lubricant and Positioning During Sex | Health Issues | Community Support Networks in Polyamory | ... and many more.

As Lydia Deetz once said, "I myself am strange and unusual." Swingsetters are merry misfits who don't hew to society's traditional norms. Tonight, Ginger Bentham, Dirty Lola, Cooper S. Beckett, Dylan Thomas, and Dr. Liz Powell discuss navigating the vanilla world as sexual oddballs, and the unique sets of perks and challenges that includes.

We’ve all spent a big chunks of our your lives trying to transform relationships from “kind of okay” into “good”. Most of us wait to have big conversations about what our relationships will look like until, well, long after they’re already a problem, but what if we could, instead, do that work early instead of just assuming that everyone is playing by the same guidelines? Dr. NerdLove joins the Swingset panel of Dr. Liz, Dirty Lola, and Mike Joseph to discuss designing your perfect relationships, talking about how to get what we all want, in advance!

We've answered the same question a lot lately: How do single men navigate the lifestyle? We've rightfully mentioned the mountain most single men must climb to be successful, In discussing how to raise everyone's game we focused on the fact that many single cis straight men ruin it for everyone as they're everywhere and generally not well behaved. In describing them we used a phrase coined by Madeleine Holden to describe it: "Dick is Abundant & Low Value". Alana Massey expanded on that thought and wrote The Dickonomics of Tinder, a comprehensive treatise on the low expectations game,

Bex Caputo joins Dirty Lola, Mike Joseph, Mister Pent, and Dylan Thomas to discuss how the phrase came into use, why it's useful, and the implications of its use.

While we spoke, we mentioned Billy Procida by reputation. Dylan decided to mention him by name and reference both his blog, "You're Not An Ally, You're An Asshole" and a Storify of people who've been negatively affected by interactions.

Sometimes we lose sight of some of the people and some of the things that matter in ourlives. Dr. Liz Powell, Mike Joseph, and Dylan Thomas get together and figure out how to recognize it, how it happens, and how to pull everything back together.

Dr. Liz also takes some time to relay some con business while Dylan mentions his newly unlocked "double flogging" achievement.

Dr. Liz mentions the Sinha Intensive/Expansive Framework, developed by Leela Sinha, M. Div. You can find Your Not Too Much: Intensive Lives in an Expansive World on Amazon.

Tonight, Madam Fierce joins the Mike Joseph, Dirty Lola, and Dylan to re-open the mailbag once again to give it the gang bang it deserves. The crew answers questions on the difference between swinging and polyamory, breaking up with another swing couple, swinging with too much enthusiasm, single male swingers, and first time swinging hiccups.

Question 1:

Hi guys, this is to all of you, though maybe first to Dylan, who seems to particularly enjoy contemplating these things.

I have been been listening to your podcasts since 2011, and have enjoyed the entire run.

What I have been struggling with intellectually is what differentiates swinging from polyamory. My wife and I have recently had acouples' experience which I think has cleared this up, at least for me. I am the introspective one in the relationship (she tends act quickly based on gut feelings of comfort, and chuckles at my additional ruminating), so this is really from the Mr.

We've been pretty successful with swinging / casual hookups, though Two things have happened recently that have changed things a bit.

First, my wife has maintained an online friendship with a single man since last spring, which I whole heartedly support, she's making plans to see him soon.

Secondly, we recently met a couple where I quickly developed a strong emotional connection with the wife. My wife has enjoyed the husband's company, but clearly isn't interested in anything more than casual. My wife supports my exploring this.

So, then, how to define what it is that we seem to be getting into? We areboth (probably) trying out hall passes, meeting folks one on one before the other has met them, and acknowledging at least one developing emotional connection with someone outside our relationship.

Question 2:

I was hoping you could give my wife and I some advice. My wife and I had talked about swinging for about a year before we actually met and played with our first couple. They checked so many of our boxes for a first encounter that we felt very fortunate to have met them.

The first time happened and was a reasonably good time. Not great by any means, but we didn't have any regrets as we popped our cherrys so to speak and we're both giddy for a month after. We discussed the apparent compatibility issues right away.

We decided to take another crack at the full swap with the same couple a month or so later to rule out nervousness. The second encounter allowed us another opportunity to hone in on the things that both did and didn't work for us. We had all but decided that this couple wasn't a compatible fit for us and although round 2 was better, we were still too far away from what we wanted.

Unfortunately, we went in for a third time, because we are slutty and it was easy to do.

Now the question:
How do you break up with a couple?

Question 3:

I'm a 39-yr old woman & new to all of this although I've been very much wanting to explore my bisexual & naughty sides for quite some time…, got a new boyfriend, he's 32, bisexual & we've been together for 1 month, already practically living together & saying the "L" word.

He's experienced in the swinging lifestyle (although it's been awhile) & is thrilled that I'm wanting/willing to try some new things with him. We've made a couples profile on 3 different sites & had 1 threesome already.

The problem is, I'm wanting to take it slow when it comes to women & couples ~ need to find the right person that I feel comfortable with and trust (to kinda get me past that nervousness hump) & he's all gung-ho about meeting people ASAP & making things happen, to the point of fiendish obsession (from my point of view, anyway). He's constantly on swinger sites, viewing profiles, suggesting potential action to me, and I'm rather picky, especially if I finally break into girl-on-girl play.

It's made me feel insecure, especially now that he's done most of the negotiation and now has started deleting messages, so I said something about it. We talked, he agreed he was moving too fast, but now I fear that I'm being petty.

Is this venture between him & I doomed? I'm not 100% sure what my boundaries are and I know I can't be the only woman on the planet to have unwelcome territorial feelings & insecurities crop up when first starting out.

How can I overcome that? I really want to do this, and I want to do it with this man.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Question 4:

Hi Swingset, love your Swinging for Beginning series and hope to hear more in the future.

My wife and I tried NonMonogamy. It went great for her, it was disasterous for me. We made some mistakes that culminated in us ending up in an unintentional cuckold arrangement.

I'm faced with moving through the swinger community as a single male and I'm not sure how. Single female swingers are few and far between and single men are plentiful and often faced with limited or expensive access to clubs and other spaces. The swinger community is pretty anti-single male, I have no clue how to survive being one. I'm segregated from the community I want to be a part of and I don't how how to proceed. Help!

Question 5:

We had our first experience at an on premise party last weekend. Our rules going in were no penetration, whatever we do it's together - constant touching of each other and at the first sign of discomfort we bail and regroup. The biggest insecurities both had was getting into a situation and being ignored.

Unfortunately, the hubby drank way too much! We met a nice couple we were both comfortable with and stuck a pin in them for later, we then met another couple we liked and took the action upstairs. We started playing together but the my hubby seemed disconneted. The original couple came upstairs and my hubby went off with the wife. The rest of the night we moved independently, hubby with other women, me with other men and women.

The party ended, we went back to our rooms and ended up with more activity in which I felt ignored. My hubby's been apologizing ever since, he feels horrible and can't explain his actions. I feel like I should have ended things the first moment I felt ignored but I didn't. We're both confused and aren't sure how to proceed. Should we go out again but watch the drinking? Should we both be more free to speak up?

Hello Swingset Fans!

We're taking a short break, episode 300 took an immense amount of effort to prepare: From recording -actually live- with an almost hundred person audience to publishing it via an audio and video podcast, to normal scheduling shenanigans... we think it's well deserved.

Cooper's going to take a short break from the Swingset, he deserves it, so we've manned the Swingset Battle Bridge, separated the saucer section, and made plans for the rest of the crew to carry on in the last hostile takeover of the Swingset ever.

While we'll look forward to his return, we've also released a little piece of Swingset history: a transcript of our first episode from 2010 titled "Dipping a Toe In - How to Start Swinging". You can find it at lifeontheswingset.com, just ... be gentle, we'd like to think we've grown since then.

In the meantime, thanks for swinging by, and see you next week.

When people think of sex, they generally assume there's penile penetration, probably into a vagina, and that everything leading up to that penetration is foreplay. It's a very narrow view, but it's a view that stubbornly persists into non-monogamy.

Tonight, on our #roadto300, we consider this episode on foreplay as foreplay. Dirty Lola, Dr. Liz Powell, Dylan Thomas, and Cooper S. Beckett get together to discuss foreplay and redefinition of what constitutes sex.

It is always risky, telling people what you're into, what you want, that you like them, but as we've found out it's often essential in getting anywhere in non-monogamy and in life. Tonight Dirty Lola, Cooper S. Beckett, Dr. Liz Powell, and Dylan Thomas discuss how to put yourself out there and how to take it when others do the same.

Most of us, especially when young, hope that death will never come, or at least not for a really really long time, and that can mean being unprepared when it does. Difficulties with visitation, inheritance, and others are issues ignored at our own peril. Dr. Liz Powell talks personally and painfully about Elliot, a partner recently and unexpectedly deceased, and along with Dylan Thomas, Mike Joseph, Dirty Lola, and Cooper S. Beckett, discusses issues surrounding death, picking up the pieces in life, and dealing with grief.

Non-monogamy definitely ups the ante on BUSY, which causes many of us to try to organize and plan our lives as carefully as possible. We say things like "I'm not going to date anyone new right now, or like some fool said last week, I'm not going to have long distance relationships anymore." So, Dr. Liz Powell, Dirty Lola, Cooper S. Beckett, and Dylan Thomas discuss what happens when someone pops up and changes the game.

We have a habit here of finding people fascinating on social media and at conferences, and so often they seem to live so very far away... like many members of the Swingset. Mike Joseph, Cooper S. Beckett, Dr. Liz Powell, and Dylan Thomas get together to discuss the distance between all us and how we work around it.

Also, Daddy Dylan takes a little time to story tell about legacy recording medium.

Dr Liz discusses how to handle touch being a primary love language when partners are far away. The panel discusses the difference between talking over the phone vs. text, how to handle both granting emotional space and still giving comfort. Dylan mentions that long distance relationships can set people up for constant NRE and how it's hard to keep perspective when that happens.

In traditional one on one sex, you pretty much know who you'll be engaging with, but when that complexity deepens to three, four, five or more (which is where we switch to the term orgy) there are a lot more, ahem, moving parts, to contend with. Group sex has a special set of dynamics, so Dr. Liz Powell, Mike Joseph, Dylan Thomas, and Cooper S. Beckett break them down!

The co-hosts touch on the fact that orgies don't require play parties, they can happen anywhere, sports viewing parties, show binge watching events, board gaming events, etc... They also mention how to prepare for being part of a pop-up orgy, including the possibility that someone may end up an odd person out, and how to still be cool when that happens.

We're Gang Banging the Mailbag once again, it is in fact our 33rd time! Today, Dirty LolaCooper S. BeckettDr. Liz Powell, and Dylan Thomas answer your listener questions!

Also, Dylan wants to throw a shoutout to Bex Caputo, aka: @BexTalksSex on Twitter, for their article: Changing What You Love: On Considering Hormones While You're Non-Binary

Question 1:

Now the question: How do you break up with a couple?

Question 2:

My wife and I started our journey in the Lifestyle about 5 years ago. About 2 years ago we got close to some nearby swingers. (Wendy & Paul)

After a while, Wendy started to get jealous of my wife and her husband. They talked and decided that it was better to play in separate rooms. We did and was good for some time.

All was good until one night my wife visited him without them telling her. We were in a block party and she got a feeling, went to her house and came out really upset. He claims that he texted her. She received a text after the fact. Could it have been a delayed text? Who knows, does not matter. The point is that since that moment it was all drama with them and she pulled out from the relationship.

After that incident my wife and Paul started "dating" without Wendy knowing. After a while he told my wife that he felt uncomfortable of me being around when he was there and he'd rather be with her alone since I have her the vast majority of time, it was fair that she could spend good quality time with him from time to time, without me.

My wife really loves the guy, but she loves me too and this is tearing her up because although I let that situation to go for some time trying to explain them that I didn't like the arrangement and being left out, I finally put the breaks on it. it really kills me to see her so devastated. she wants to be with me and not lose him. he really wants her without me in the way, and I firmly believe that if we embark on a relation like this, me and my wife are the hosts and he would be a guest and should abide by our rules and I have tasted the feeling of being left behind and I didn't like it.... Am I wrong? What should I do? I'm really confused now.

Question 3:

I'm military serving in Afghanistan and I have been gone for several months with a few more to go. My wife and I have played together as a couple with other couples and an occasional single female once or twice.

Recently, we've increased our dirty chatting and sharing fantasies, becoming more and more graphic. She was attending a camping event that I knew drinks would be flowing along with some nudity. I found myself very excited at the prospect of my wife become sexual with another man.

All sort of situations played out in my mind. After, she shared that there was no more than a little light petting & teasing, but nothing more.

We then ventured into adding some fantasy to the reality in the retelling of the weekends events. Then over the course of the past week, we were discussing her getting wild and I was encouraging her to be naughty and to be sure to send me pictures. I shocked her when I described that I wanted to see some pictures with one of our friends cocks in her mouth. After the initial shock she bought into this plan with some teasing.

Then after Saturday night I was please to receive sexy pictures of her sucking our friends cock, along with some other shots that appeared to show her either on-top of him cowgirl style or being ridden doggy style from behind. She did reveal that those were staged for my enjoyment and that she didn't feel right doing anything beyond oral without me. I found the picture incredibly sexy and my wife told me she felt very sexy doing it.

She has expressed sexual frustration on her end and because of family visiting, she has not had much opportunity to use any of her toys. I've told her that I trust her if she needs to fuck our friend to relieve some frustration, as long as I get the footage of it. The thought excites me and I'd be OK with it once before I return, just not on a routine basis.

I want my wife to be happy and I've told her that I am perfectly happy with what ever she is comfortable with and she should not feel pressured to do anything she is uncomfortable with.

I just wanted to share and see if there is any discussion about dialing in long distance this way?

Question 4:

This past year we found out our 25-year-old son is actually a transgender woman and is currently in transition. Because of our open minded lifestyle, we embrace this 1000%, and have done so from the very first phone call. We have made it clear that our house is a safe space and she can talk about anything wear anything bring home anyone. We are not naïve though we know the rest of the world does not think this way. Our extended families are both very conservative, Christians.

This is a sampling of what I worry every day as the parent of a transgender child:; Will my child have the shit beat out of them today? Will my child be murdered today? But my child commit suicide today? Will my child be fired today? Should my child not have gotten on the train today? And on it goes. I have seen the fear in her eyes stopping at a public highway rest stop, I have felt the fear walking into the public rest stop with her. It is real.

Now the dilemma. There is a big family wedding coming up this spring. The wedding is in North Carolina and our child has told us she is afraid to go there. I totally understand and support that. In showing our support for her we have told family members that we Will not be able to attend the wedding and have explained why. It's not that we don't want to go to the wedding, it is that we can't go to this location. Well, you can imagine how this is going over. We have family members now that are not talking to us and won't return messages. Certainly the easiest thing would be to just go, But we don't think that is the right thing to do. We are sticking by our guns in support of our new daughter but it's coming at a big cost.

Are we doing the right thing?
Again thanks for all you do it is so appreciated.

Eighteen episodes is the longest we've ever gone without a listener mailbag episode, so tonight we've dug in deep with a new collection of listener questions including a highly coveted voicemail (573-55-SWING folks)! Dr. Liz PowellMike Joseph, Dirty Lola, Cooper S. Beckett, and Dylan Thomas field your questions and dig deep. In addition to fielding a voicemail question about dating and learning about how to put out what you're up for, we responded to:

Question 2:

My wife and I each identify as Poly. We have been actively practicing non-monogamy for a number of years now. This past year however, I was diagnosed with depression and bipolar. living and coping with this condition has really brought strife into our relationship. Therefore, after much consultation with each other and my therapist we have decided to close our marriage for now. There were no active outside relationships at the time, so there was no pulling couple's privilege.

Now however, after this initial period of introspection, I found myself asking this question:
Why do people (huge sweeping generalization there) who identify as Poly or otherwise non-monogamous seem to default to monogamy when things get tough with one of the relationships (usually the "primary")?

Shouldn't someone who identifies as Poly, have Poly as their default/fall back situation?

Question 3:

my wife & I have been talking about swinging for a while now and we've talked with a few couples but haven't been able to set up a meet yet. the question we have is how do we get over the nervousness of bringing a fantasy to reality and what happens if we don't like the reality of it

Question 4:

Dear Swingset.

My wife and I have been together for 5 years and my sexual experiences is quite limited. I have many fetishes and we stumbled into a FMF threesome one drunken evening. We have explored some of my fantasies together but many make her uncomfortable and we mostly stick to vanilla sex and light bondage.

We are both bisexual and I have never had a sexual experience with another man. I gently brought up the idea of us trying swinging and exploring the many M and F configurations together. This lead to fights and her refusing to even have the discussion with me. She would not let me do this on my own nor with her with the cost being our relationship. After several month I brought it up again and after a long and emotional talk we agreed that we would dip our toes but do everything together, she would set the pace and have veto powers. We started on Feeld and after a couple dates with couples found that she has no physical attractions to males with the exception of me. This is problematic as it leaves me with no males to pursue and us to go unicorn hunting.

Long story short we stopped our adventure with nothing gained except a deepened resentment towards me for 'pressuring' her into uncomfortable situations that she didn't want to be a part of anyways. By making the rules that we did everything together she felt she had no choice.

Now I'm in a situation where I will not have a chance to be with any other men or women or explore my fetishes for the cost of exploring is my marriage. I feel resentment towards her and my level of physical and emotional attraction towards has suffered greatly.

What am I to do?

We talk about butts bunches. Many of us enjoy putting things in our butts. Some of us wish we enjoyed it. What we don't often get into is the whys of butt play, how to make it better, how to explore it at first, and why anal sex can be awesome, so Dirty Lola, Cooper S. Beckett, Dr. Liz Powell, and Dylan Thomas get together to tell some stories and relay some expert opinion!

We've talked a lot about porn, often in high falutin ways about its importance (cuz it is important), its ability to change the world (cuz it has that), its danger of extinction (oh my the politics), and its ability to be beautiful. What we haven't discussed much is how sexy it can be, and how silly, sexy, and mundane making it can be. Kate Sinclaire, founder of CherryStems.com joins Dylan Thomas, Dr. Liz Powell, Dirty Lola, and Cooper S. Beckett to talk about living the porn life, both on and off camera.

We also end up discussing revenge porn, colonialism and indigenous porn, squirting, and sploshing.

Non-monogamy is riding a wave. Recently CNN had a positive article about the fact that more and more young people are choosing some flavor non-monogamy over traditional relationship forms. Awareness continues to grow exponentially, but with that comes the desperate need for a place to go to ask questions. Like us, our guest, the polyamory pundit Andre Shakti has submitted herself to the often scary world of giving advice. Her new advice column "I Am Poly & So Can You" seeks to temper that awareness with education and advice, and help guide people on their paths to relationship fluidity. She joins the panel with Dirty Lola, Dylan Thomas, and Cooper S. Beckett.

Approaching the Swingularity's Synopsis:

“Welcome home…”

Those words and a glass of sparkling champagne welcome you to Aphrodite’s Resort and Spa, a place of pleasure and debauchery, situated on a strip of white sand beach on the Riviera Maya.

Ryan and Jenn are still newbie swingers in many ways when they arrive with their friends, lovers, playmates, and veterans of this trip Bruce and Paige. As this foursome tries to wring out every last drop of pleasure that Aphrodite's has to offer, they’re confronted with the realities of life at home, as well as complexities of exploring a life less monogamous, the spectrum of sexuality, budding and waning attraction and love, and how one truly gets the most out of an orgy.

Alongside them are Alejandra and Crista, a lesbian couple on their first sexy vacation, recognizing the differences and difficulties in being the only lesbian swingers in the crowd. Raymond Horn is the host extraordinaire, on his tenth trip, who is losing his confidence and direction after watching his partner walk out the door the month before.

One hundred and eleven couples have descended on Aphrodite’s for a week of the finest food and drink, meeting and flirting, and getting down and debaucherous with friends and lovers alike. They will experience ecstasy and strain, for nothing is quite so intense in non-monogamous lifestyles as seven straight days at a resort filled with like-minded hedonists.

Together, they will seize the night.

While many people enter into non-monogamy when already "coupled," there are some ways that folks approach this transition that can make folks like me feel more like prey than people. While there's nothing wrong with enjoying a threesome or wanting to both date the same person, unicorn hunting can quickly become predatory, coercive, and controlling. So how can you be sure that you're not falling into these patterns? Tonight, we're talking couple privilege and ethical treatment of unicorns.

When we talk about privilege, it's usually a matter of race and class, and boils down to us not seeing or not even knowing to look for the issues that others face. Andrew Gurza, our guest tonight, is a Disability Awareness Consultant and Cripple Content Creator, and they join joins Cooper, Dylan, Dr. Liz Powell, and Mike Joseph to talk with us about how disability impacts life, the enormous breadth of the subject across the spectrum of sexuality, race, and class, and how it applies to living an alternative sexual lifestyle. We discussed the intersection between sexuality, disability, and queerness, discussed accommodations queer communities; in bar scenes and gathering places. We touched on disability as a critical dimension of diversity and on what being an ally means.

There is a sort of order from chaos that happens when like minded people discover others like themselves. Individuals become clusters, clusters become groups, and with groups come unavoidable growing pains, issues, conflict, and struggle. Still, there's a certain magic that comes from having a group of diverse and motivated people with a common role come together to build something, because when you get it right, you end up with a community. Community role models are essential and tonight, Kevin Patterson joinsCooper, Dylan, Dirty Lola, and Mike Joseph to discuss poly role models and the joys and struggles involved with building sex positive community.

After seven years of podcasting, it's rather shocking to us how much we put of our lives out into the ether. A podcast can be very much like a living document in that way. What compels us to share so much of ourselves? Probably some narcissism, but also an innate belief that personal information breeds empathy and understanding. Tonight we talk about sharing and oversharing with Cooper, Dylan, Dirty Lola, Mike Joseph, Kinky Jean, and Lucas Brooks to talk about putting our lives out in the open, out on stage.

Hello Swingset Fans and welcome to Desire week on the Swingset! The following podcast was recorded at Desire in November 2016 and features Dr. Liz Powell, Chris aka. Mister Pent, and myself, and it is The Gentleperverts Social Club. If you want to join us in Desire from November 4th to the 11th in 2017, well, hurry up! We are over 50% booked and yes... 51% does count as over 50%. :) So visit SSDESIRE.com for information on pricing and booking and when you do you'll be joining us for our second full takeover of Desire.

While enjoying time at Desire Resort and Spa, we watched, waited, and realized our suffering through the 2016 Election would continue, but we decided to acknowledge the election and move on, for when we returned home we'd have work to do, and there was no work to be done while "stuck in Mexico". So, Chris Pent. Dr. Liz Powell and myself, with Tonia as our willing hostess and facilitator, decided to talk about:

Closing the Deal

Being sexually free means potential surrounds you, but it can be a real challenge to find someone you're attracted to and to ask them to join you in a way that allows for multiple chances for success, and for graceful failures.

We are the Gentleperverts Social Club, You can find more Gentleperverts’ Social Club podcasts every month at www.gentleperverts.com and discuss our latest episodes and topics on twitter with @GentlePerverts and on the Swingset.FM network hashtag #SSFM on twitter.. You can find me, Dylan Thomas, on Twitter, Facebook, Spotify and Fetlife. If you have a submission, a story, a signal boost request, or an idea for a topic, send that over to me at dylan@lifeontheswingset.com.

It's no secret that women may have dramatically different experiences entering into the non-monogamous world than men, whether it's exploring dating on OkCupid, charting a path through swinger parties, or being a third in a couples' relationship. Dedeker Winston, co-host of Swingset.FM's Multiamory, and author of the new book The Smart Girl's Guide to Polyamory joins Dylan Thomas, Dr. Liz Powell, Mike Joseph, and Cooper S. Beckett to discuss gender and feminism within non-monogamy.

Used to be, we'd talk pretty endlessly about our sexual activity on this podcast, to the point where our MOST NEGATIVE REVIEW EVER called us out for it. But that's ages ago, and it's been quite a while, and we're feeling a little indulgent and want to have some sexy conversation. You may as well just slap the #explanabrag hashtag right on here, cuz that's what Dylan Thomas, Cooper S. Beckett, Dr. Liz Powell, Mike Joseph, and Dirty Lola are doing tonight!

We each tell some of our most recent sexy stories... stories including rimming, threesomes, pegging, anal, rimming, blowjobs, piss play, Donald Trump masks, deep throating, gagging, anal, bathhouses, play parties, orgies, strap-on sex... oh yes... yes.

It seems to happen like clockwork. Someone cheats, or gets caught in some sort of sex scandal. They have to make amends, show that they're working to fix "the problem" so they can return to their normal lives. While we on the Swingset happen to think that many of their normal lives might've been improved with open and honest conversations about monogamy, so often they fall back to the excuses of "I'm addicted to sex" and failing that, "I'm addicted to porn." It's widespread and it's been propagated by early friend to open sexual discussion Dr. Drew (who has since descended into some sort of madness). Tonight we're thrilled to be joined by clinical psychologist Dr David Ley to discuss the myths of sex and porn addiction. Join Cooper, Dylan, Dirty Lola, Mike Joseph, and Dr. Liz Powell on tonight's panel!

It's the New Year, 2017, and for much of our country that means halfhearted resolutions. I'm going to change. I'm going to improve. These resolutions come about because of the arbitrary timeline that defines last year and this year. We are unfinished, and as such, we can strive to always improve. We discuss working on ourselves and becoming better, in sex, in relationships, and in life with Cooper, Dylan, Dr. Liz, Mike Joseph, and Dirty Lola.

We've been overdue for for a rapprochement with one of our favorite past topics: Privacy and Security in Swinging & Polyamory. The team of Mister Pent and Dylan Thomas put together information about securing yourself on the internet that a panel also including Dr. Liz Powell, Mike Joseph, and Cooper S. Beckett could discuss, digest, and put into action. In the age of our ability to connect anywhere and anytime, share information easily, and be as open as we want to be, it's important we arm ourselves with the knowledge  necessary to make good decisions about what we put online and the information required to raise our level of computer and internet security.

As you listen, don’t forget to tweet at #sspodcast and feel free to ask questions of @MisterPent and @DylanTheThomas!

We’re sponsored by Castle Megastore, a one stop shop with everything you could want, from wand vibrators, to harnesses, to lube and condoms, to a complete suite of BDSM equipment including sex furniture. If you use the promo code SWINGSET at check out you can save 20% on your order.

While we are definitely going to put together ebook / guide on cybersecurity for perverts, we wanted to list some of the resources we discussed during the podcast here:

On Two-Factor Authentication

When enabled, two-factor authentication (or 2FA) can surface as a "we don't recognize this device" message sent to an email address or a mobile phone number, or it can refer to an installed mobile app or a physical security token. You can find a list of websites that support 2FA here: https://twofactorauth.org/

In the meantime if you have a Google account, or have logins on sites like Dropbox, Lastpass, or Microsoft, go grab the Google Authenticator app. If you're a steam gamer, grab the Steam app and enable Steam Guard.

On Passwords

Securityinabox.org has a lot of great contnet with tools and tactics for digital security, they have a particularly good guide on creating, maintaining, remembering, and recording secure passwords, including with a password manager.

XKCD's comic on Password Security that we love:

On Password Managers and Sharing Passwords:

Mister Pent, Cooper S. Beckett, and Dylan Thomas use Lastpass. Lastpass allows you to have a single set of passwords securely accessible over multiple devices and over the web, while setting up two factor authentication to limit access. It includes web browser extensions to automatically log you into sites and an Android app that does the same, depending on desired level of ease of use. It also allows you to share sets of passwords secureiy and simply with other people.

Dylan Thomas also uses mSecure synchronized to a Dropbox account. mSecure has mobile and computer apps. It's not as nice or feature filled as Lastpass, but it's a little extra hassle for a lot of extra security for the most sensitive of passwords.

If you need to share a temporary password with someone you can use OneTimeSecret. You create an a self-destructing link that disappears once it's accessed or once a certain amount of time passes.

On using VPNs:

You can't always trust the access to the internet you have, whether it's because you're in an airport on free airport wireless or a coffee shop or because you're travelling. Sometimes you may just want to tune into BBC Radio 5 using their iPlayer and you happen to not live in the Commonwealth. VPNs can keep your traffic secure when you can't trust your connection, with the added benefit of giving you choice on what country your traffic exits so you can use region specific resources.

Dylan Thomas uses BlackVPN. Mister Pent and Cooper S. Beckett use Private Internet Access.

Both can support simultaneous connections to cover multiple devices at once, and both allow multiple country exit points  It has guides for usage on Windows, OS X, Linux, Android and iOS.

On Encrypting your Devices using Passwords or Biometric Authentication:

If you don't use a password, pin code, or thumbprint on your mobile devices, set one up! Modern Android and iOS based phones will automatically encrypt your device or give you the option to once you've set a password. While a six digit pin code or better is best, anything is better than nothing. Just Do It.

On Encrypting your Computer with Full Disk Encryption!

If you have a maching running a Pro version of Windows, use Bitlocker. Windows 7 ||| Windows 10

If you are running any other version of Windows, use Veracrypt. Securityinabox.org has a great guide on using Veracrypt to encrypt an external drive or your entire computer.

If you're running MacOS, Backblaze (the Cloud Storage company) has a comprehensive FileVault usage guide, though Apple's isn't so bad.

If you're running Linux you probably don't need our assistance. *grin*

On Backing up your data & Encryption in the Cloud:

One of the biggest risks to your data is physical failure or destruction of your devices. While services like Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox and Box give us places to put our files in a pretty secure way, information stored on those services can be accessed and recovered by the services themselves in case of an investigation or subpoena. We recommend Backblaze as they encrypt data at rest and support two factor authentication.

On Communicating Securely:

We recommend using Signal Private Messenger, which includes iOS and Android apps and a Chrome extension and supports private messaging and calling.

Whatsapp supports end-to-end encryption. With Facebook Messenger you can enable secret conversations.

We suggest never sending sensitive information over email.

On Social Media:

Check out SecurityInABox.org's guide to security and privacy on social networking sites.

On Browsing Secureiy:

Drive-by malware downloads and poisoned ad networks, or shady looking porn sites, can mean you may pick something up while browsing the internet, often through no fault of your own. Most of us use both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox to browse the web, each for different sets of accounts (Multiple Google Accounts!) and with different sets of extensions installed to help protect ourselves.

One of the main reasons that so many of us leave monogamous relationships is the realization that we or our partners may not be as hetero as we thought. Non-monogamy can provide an exceptional opportunity to go beyond Kinsey's Scale, and view the entire spectrum of sexuality that spreads out before us, learning about ourselves in the process. The fluidity of sexuality and sexual expression is often underappreciated in the vanilla world. From straight to gay, to bi, pan, and omni, that's what we're talking about tonight on Life on the Swingset, the Podcast.

Tonight we answer the following written questions:

My road into non-monogamy has been a twisted and challenging path. My 13-year marriage ended last year partly because of an incompatibility around the potential for opening our marriage.

When I started dating I tried to be very open with women about my desire for non-monogamy and live a polyamourous life that includes swinging and sometimes a little kink and BDSM. Through dating apps like Tinder I have met many wonderful women and had some great relationships develop. I have tremendously transparent conversations with these women. Most run for the hills after to non-monogamy talk, some are intrigued and go along with it for a while, but in the end these relationships mostly follow the same pattern. The woman is okay with other partners in the beginning, but as time passes she always has a difficult time with the non-monogamy and it ends or goes to the friend zone. Otherwise the woman wants a “don’t ask don’t tell” or “friends with benefits” approach, which to me is just single dating rather than ethical non monogamy. It is impossible to have intimacy without transparency.

Where does one go to find women who are already there in the poly/swinger community who are looking for other poly/swing single partners? Are there any better strategies for finding women more directly who already share these values?

Aaron from Canada

My brief backstory: 50ish male, married for twenty-something years. I have always struggled with attraction, crushes, and even feelings for, and from, others. Monogamy isn't actually what I want, and, in the spirit of a good mid-life crisis, I'm not getting any younger.

Being aware of the trauma that this might cause my wife, I have introduced the topic gently and slowly. She has reacted... well, it's hard to say. There has been no screaming and crying, which I guess is a good sign. The best description of her reaction is "ninja-level avoidant", as she deflects my every attempt to explore this in depth.

An example: after a recent talk she said "you've given me a lot to think about".

I realise what I want most is to have the relationship communication skills that are necessary to be non-monogamous in the first place. To have the openness that I hear others describe in their relationships. It's not even principally about the swinging anymore. I have communication envy!

So how do I learn to communicate like a non-monogamous person? And how do I teach someone else to do this? Is it possible?

My husband I have been in the swing lifestyle since we first started dating 6 years ago. Along the way, I have developed more romantic feelings for some of our partners, while things remain mainly about friendship and sex for my husband. I've tried to hide my feelings which has resulted in a lot of hurt. We are trying to figure out how to move forward when I feel more poly and he still feels more like a swinger and isn't interested in developing romantic relationships. I'm having trouble finding resources that talk about how to successfully move between the two.

Kara

Today I found out, in a convoluted way, that a long-term male partner of mine sexually assaulted someone. I don't know the any details. I don't know when it happened, or what happened afterwards. I do know that women don't lie about sexual assault. I also learned two others say they witnessed him pushing boundaries or putting women in uncomfortable situations , and that he's seen as a "missing stair" in some subsets of our local kink community.

This is someone I love. Someone I've only ever had positive, affirming, respectful experiences with. Someone I trusted with my life (and I'm an angry, suspicious, mostly-lesbian hardcore feminist killjoy who rarely trusts anyone).

What should I do?

Oh, and just to make things even more complicated, this partner's live-in partner is also my partner. We're a triad. Do I tell her? How?

In answering this question, Dylan lamented not reading the question before he read it as he wanted to have a more prepared answer. Dr. Liz on the other hand was able to respond quickly and effectively on ways to address members of the community to who have violated boundaries and support people who have had their boundaries violated, and how to both repair and grow the larger community after. Visit a compilation of resources Dr. Liz put together here.

We took a little time at the end of the episode for business. Dr. Liz put out a new video on Youtube titled "What's the 'Friend Zone' Anyway?"

Tonight we answer a voicemail question on how to maintain long distance play relationships, and the following written questions:

I'm a big fan of the podcast,of you as people and of all you're doing for people in the lifestyle. First of all I would like to say as a black man I appreciated the episode on Polyamorous as a Person of Colour, granted my experiences are a different as I am from a majority black country(Jamaica) so I swing with mostly black people.

Is being in fuck with someone a thing? Meaning you're not in love with them but you and them have a unique sexual chemistry. Is this a thing, can you be in love, just with having sex with someone?

I'm married to a great guy in a monogamous relationship. My fantasy has always been to have an MFM threesome. I finally found the courage to mention this to him a couple years ago, and he was cautious but excited about exploring; he could tell it really turned me on. The question has been who - we both want it to be someone we know well enough that we trust them, and I'm pretty picky. So we haven't really pursued it.

Well, we finally have someone in mind. Here's the thing: he's married. He and I originally met at burning man, and since then the four of us have all gotten to know each other. His wife is great. She jokes about his "girlfriends" and he implies they have some flexibility, but I'm not sure exactly what that means. When I asked him if they are poly, he said no, he doesn't like that term. So I don't really know if she'd be cool with it.

What is the protocol for trying to move things forward? I'd feel pretty comfortable asking the third if he'd be into it. I'd feel less comfortable asking his wife's "permission." Whatever happens, I don't want to foul up our friendship. (FWIW we don't have an interest in swinging at the moment.) What would you do?

Oh, and assuming the third is into it, any tips for keeping things sexy and comfortable for us? My husband is a little nervous how he'll feel seeing his wife with another man!

Dating in the heteronormative world is difficult. It's also bizarre enough that hundreds of comedies and dramas are made about dating every year. When you zoom down to that subsection of the culture, the minorities of the LGBTQ community who are seeking others in that same minority, it gets more complicated. Tonight we're joined by Claire to talk about dating on the outskirts of sexuality, and LGBTQ matchmaking with Dirty Lola, Dr. Liz Powell, Dylan, and Cooper.

A large percentage of us dwell pretty securely within the non-monogamy closet. Friends and family may know something is different about us, but they rarely know fully what is up. That said, we live in a world where being sex-positive and progressive can make a big difference, as can standing with those who are bravely out, so tonight, Dirty Lola, Dr. Liz Powell, Cooper and Dylan talk about how to navigate being sex-positive from inside the non-monogamy closet .

Communication. It doesn't need to be said, yet as it's the answer to so many questions we get asked, it really can't be overstated. One of the most important parts of communication when it comes to sexy time, is learning to ask for what you want, so we discuss that in today's episode of Life on the Swingset, along with Dr. Liz Powell, Mike Joseph, Cooper, and Dylan.

Today's episode of Life on the Swingset is sponsored by Better Than the Hand, a website that aims to deconstruct stigma and toxicity surrounding male sexuality and masturbation through articles, blogs, toy reviews, and an online store. We're also sponsored by Castle Megastore, a one stop shop with everything you could want, from wand vibrators, to harnesses, to lube and condoms, to a complete suite of BDSM equipment including sex furniture. If you use the promo code SWINGSET at check out you can save 20% on your order.

DylanThomasBabeRuth

Dr. Liz starts out stating that there's an assumption of wanting to respect what we think someone else wants, and that we make the assumption that "asking for what I want may negatively affect their experience". Cooper asks if Dylan has this problem because he's trying not to be selfish, Dylan suspects that's the case.

Mike Joseph mentions that homosexual sex (especially the top vs. bottom negotiation) by default has more communication than heterosexual sex. Dr. Liz comments that women that have sex with women also have a ton more conversations, and that people who consider themselves sex geeks or sex educators really bump up the level of conversation and negotiation that goes into sex.

“If you don’t ask for what you want, you’re not going to have that next level sex you’ve been dreaming of.” “Just like you need to be gracious in saying yes, you should try to be gracious in your no’s as well.”

- Dylan

“I think a lot of those shitty no’s are coming from people shame as well. The reason you give a really shitty no and react with disgust is this kind of, performative goodness. If what they want is bad, then the best way to separate yourself from it is to perform how offended you are by it.”

- Dr. Liz

"HOW DARE YOU." “Everything changed when I started asking for what I wanted, It as just as likely to be a result of you not asking for what you want than the party not giving you what you want.”

- Cooper

While Dylan explains how sometimes, when about to play with someone who has a large tool kit / is well skilled at communication, he likes to get an initial yes to exploration and chart the path forward in the moment, listening to non-language verbal cues, and body response. Mike Joseph mentions that it sounds like a recipe for uncertainty and anxiety, so Dylan talks his way through a play session with someone that's willing an open. Mike discovers that being inside someone often elicits all sorts of non-verbal responses. *grin*

Cooper mentions that sometimes, in the run up to a party or play session, it's easy to fire away a thought via instant messenger and walk away, it makes it easy to ask for something without necessarily needing feedback right away.

Dr. Liz mentions the mildest and wildest activity that many people use at the beginning of play parties and Dylan mentions that even though he uses it, tt never quite "feels" right.

“The way I’ve always seen that exercise (mildest and wildest) is that it tells you where the buffet starts and ends. It doesn’t guarantee that you’ll be able to get any specific dish on the buffet.”

- Dr. Liz

Dr. Liz also mentions that the mildest and wildest activity helps her check-in with herself, and that it's a way of conveying a range of options, not necessarily a set destination, describing it as the beginning and the end of a buffet.

The conversation moves to being awkward about starting conversation. Dr. Liz mentions she has a formula.

"What I tell people is one of the most effective ways to start a conversation, is by sharing something you’re feeling about having that conversation. You're leading with your softness instead of leading with your hardness."

- Dr. Liz

It's no secret that in the pantheon of the LGBT spectrum, bisexual people are looked down upon, told they don't really exist, avoided in dating life. Bisexuals also often feel less pressure to come out, as they can so easily pass as one side or the other. Paradoxically, this leads to bi invisibility and erasure, so we discuss, and make an attempt to deconstruct this in today's episode of Life on the Swingset, along with Dr.

National Coming Out Day was a pretty big deal for Cooper this year. He discussed his reasons as coming out, specifically to his conservative family, as someone who has struggled with his sexuality and is still working through it, and why he chose not to identify to them as queer, even though he specifically identifies with queer.

The conversation moves to reasons why not to come out, whether because livelyhood may be jeopardized (as in Dr. Liz's relaying of her experience of being in the army before Don't Ask Don't Tell was fully repealed), or child custody may be revoked, or any other reason to stay in the closet.

Mike posits that many people aren't all open to themselves (as with straight identified men who still seek men), and mentions that even being the out partner in a gay couple has stress that comes with it.

The panel talks specifically about ways that people specifically disappear bisexuality, telling men who identify as bi that they are gay and they haven't admitted it yet (bi now, gay later), or that bisexual people, because so much effort has been exerted to create the separate gay identity that having a bridge between those identities, muddy the waters.

To Dr. Liz, the conflict presents differently as women, that there's a "penis phobia" that can exist so that bi women who have sex with men are tagged as higher risk because there is less transmission risk between women who only have sex with women. Dr. Liz also takes time to lament the fact that before she got her "super stereotypical queer haircut" everyone assumed she was straight, but now that she has it, everyone assumes she's gay!

Mike brings up that at many events he attends, almost every woman identifies as bisexual even though most men identify as straight, even if they later identify as curious or fluid, and that it may be a holdover from the aids crisis in that if you identified as bi or gay you were automatically more likely to get infected. Dr. Liz adds that there's a challenge to masculinity involved, and that men who identify as straight but still fuck men create a safe space to sexually express themselves without the stigma of challenging that masculinity, and that any question as to why that man may marry a woman even if he fucks men doesn't get asked. Dylan brings up that many bi woman in monogamous relationships get the same challenge, and they get questions as to why they "even bother" identifying as bisexual if they're marrying a man, because they'll never get to do anything about their attraction to women. Dr. Liz mentions that bisexuals get misidentified sexually based on the genitals they're interacting with as opposed to their actual preferences.

Dylan asks about the pansexual label, and whether people identifying as pansexual get to skip some of the bisexual stigma or confusion... but gets that thought dismissed as most people outside of the queer community would just not understand what it is. He follows up with a questions about whether bisexual men are seen as, as dangerous as bisexual women are to "the husbands" of straight women in monogamous relationships and... yes. Mike, as a queer man, has had his male friends told by their female partners not to hang out with them or has had his male friends' sexuality questions because of their desire to be friends with him.

Cooper mentions that whenever you present an alternative to traditional heteronormative nonmonogamy to people who actively try not to look into and not think about it, that anyone with predispositions to something other than traditional heteronormative may show interest and that's dangerous.

Dylan compares it to Doctor Who weeping angels and... pretty much stuns everyone into silence, and into a little bit of weeping.

After a break, Dr. Liz discusses ideas to help with bi erasure, whether thinking about the bi celebrities you know (and with say, Anna Paquin being bi but being identified as straight because she's married to a man), and that when you meet someone you really only have one datapoint, and to stay open.

We talk about attraction, and how you don't necessarily need to identify the way your attraction takes you, because it's ok to explore fantasy, explore the juiciness of, and even still decide to act it out without identifying as your attraction.

As couples, so often we're looking for the third. The unicorn usually. They're rare, seemingly unobtainable, but when we find them it's just so magical. Except that we're often boxing that unicorn in, that single person who now has to put up with our pre-established couples dynamic and the fact that if we ghosted it'd be as a pair. Yep, tonight we're talking about couples privilege and what that means for the third so many of us are seeking.

We all send dirty comments, dirty pictures, full on sext-travaganzas with our partners, playmates, friends straddling the edge of naughty. Tonight we're joined by the Swinging MILF herself, Sally Swings to talk about sending each other dirty pictures and messages through sexting.

Today's episode of Life on the Swingset is sponsored by Better Than the Hand, a website that aims to deconstruct stigma and toxicity surrounding male sexuality and masturbation through articles, blogs, toy reviews, and an online store.

The Swingset crew starts by discussing the difference between different types of sexting, "the tease", and the "taking it to completion" type, and how sexting is often compatible with our every day busy lives because we're always on the go. Sexting gives us a charge, a kick, it's something that we bring back to our partners.

Sally and Dylan commiserate over being in private photo groups when men complain how their photos only get a couple likes, while women's photos get tens or hundreds. Cooper poses the thought that unsolicited dick pics and the general dick pic "economy" gives pretty extreme incentives to women willing to share, and that because of a scarcity of that kind of photo, men swarm and ... create disincentives to sharing. Dylan discusses unsolicited dick pics as men seeking power, and as a full frontal assault on someone, while simultaneously causing men whose dick pics are refused to act aghast, as if their pics are a gift to the world and should be accepted unconditionally. Cooper decides it'd be funny to try and flood Dylan's inbox with topless photos so, in that spirit, listeners... email Dylan at dylan@lifeontheswingset.com and send him your topless pics! He consents on behalf of Dylan, Dylan indicates a measure of exasperated agreement with that given consent. R.I.P. his inbox.

In episode business, Cooper has finally finished writing his second swinging novel! Dylan brings up the We-Vibe lawsuit and feels strongly about companies collecting more information than people have really volunteered to give.

Ars Technica: Sex Toys and the Internet of Things Collide: What Could Go Wrong?

The Guardian: Tech Company Accused of Collecting Details of How Customers Use Sex Toys

When people consider exploring non-monogamy, we tell them to picture a pretty good but occasionally difficult relationship (ie, every relationship) and then picture it expanding exponentially because you've added more people. Eventually becoming a tesseract of interlocking and interconnected parts. Each of those parts, believe it or not, have a mind of their own. We've all been in moments where it seems insurmountable, where we acknowledge that this whole damned thing is just too hard and consider the days of monogamous yore. We discuss what pushes us to the edge, and what keeps us going, because playing with and loving others feels so fucking right.

Dylan starts the discussion with a personal update; Tonia feels isolated, not having people she feels she can talk to openly even when she's surrounded by friends contributes to that feeling. It's made her consider giving up this whole non-monogamy thing and it's left Dylan feeling useless since there's not a lot that Dylan can do to directly help. Dylan's feels guilt over some recent success and he hates the feeling that he's leaving her bind.

Cooper mentions that, acknowledging the negative feedback loop Tonia's in, that multiple partners bring a particular joy that we all seek, sexually and emotionally, Dylan explanabrags a bit but then admits that his #1 attraction to this lifestyle is that he no longer has to feel along, because he's part of this exclusive (but very inclusive) club. Ginger seals the point by stating that the relationship choices we make enrich our lives through the people we connect with, and that we bring that energy back to the relationships with those we've built a life with.

Ginger recommends a book, Open Marriage: A New Life Style for Couples, by Nena O'Neill.

It's pretty much a given that, at some point or another in swinging or polyamory, there will be boundary violations, safer sex failures, and other moments you'd talked about and thought about and made rules about. No matter how much hypothetical thought goes into it, though, often being confronted with these things in the real world can cause some serious "knocked on your ass" moments. Tonight we talk about how to process boundary violations, safer sex failures, and the importance of compassion throughout the process.

Dylan relayed his recent protection failure story, consisting of a condom sliding off during sex resulting in condomless ejaculation. While the story and the people involved were incredibly sexy, the mistakes made (delaying telling a partner, processing the failure as offense, lack of perspective on the risk of playing with others) resulted in an otherwise pleasant encounter into something to suffer through.

Cooper makes the point that something will happen over the course of a swinging lifetime, and that you should treat others how you'd want to be treated if you were the one who'd "screwed up" somehow, that compassion in necessary because everyone is hurting when there's no intent to harm.

The group moves into discussing "odd-man out" scenarios in which (usually) the male half of a couple who ends up not playing has a choice on whether to be mopey and whiny about it, or whether to enjoy his partner's pleasure and the atmosphere, and to potentially live to play again later in the night. Dylan once again relays a story of not taking his usual care to see the "odd-man out" partner before joining his wife in a threesome, and speaks of some real regret in not doing so after seeing a well meaning person hurting.

There are few acts in the pantheon of sexuality that carry with them so much intrigue, coveting, and fear, as double penetration, and its more advanced siblings double vaginal and double anal. For one thing, these really can't be done in a monogamous relationship. Oh sure, we can use dildos and such things, but that's not really where the intrigue lies, does it? We discuss double penetration or "DP" in its many forms and talk other varsity level sexual moves.

Thank you to SheVibe for always being awesome, and to SexyLosers for "schlick".

While we're pretty good on the Swingset at talking about our experiences in polyamory and swinging, We have limits to our shared experience, so we reached out and asked Mike Joseph to join the Swingset and speak to us about his experience navigating dating and polyamory as a person of color.

We discussed some of the challenges dating couples, Dylan called the question: "Why should we have to convince people that doing the right thing will improve their lives, when they should just do the right thing?" regarding diversity. We asked about, and Mike spoke about the advantages and challenges of being unique and out as queer person of color in multiple communities.

Also, Mark Zuckerberg should give us money, give us all money.

Ginger takes the cords of the mailbag and sits down with Dylan and a LIVE STUDIO AUDIENCE as they answer listener questions for the 29th Gang Bang the Mailbag! The Swinger Doc also sits down for another edition of the Medical Mailbag! In this mailbag he answers a listener question on risks associated with hot tub sex!

Questions in this Gang Bang the Mailbag include:

My husband and I opened our relationship about a year ago, and have both developed deep connections with other partners but haven't dipped our toes into the swinging side of things. I now have a few fun potential opportunities on the horizon to do just that. Here's the thing. I'm positive for HSV-1, and I'm one of the lucky ones who acquired it genitally. I'm responsible, educated, and up-front, but I'm feeling very anxious about it in the context of these more casual opportunities. I've already dealt with slut-shaming and with ignorant and poisonous reactions to my status. Would I even be allowed to participate at something like a play party, an orgy, or Desire? If so, what are the expectations and etiquette?

So, I have an average cock. I mean around the 50th percentile both erect and flaccid. That also makes me a grower, not a show-er. I should be OK with that. But I'm not. Hard for this sex-positive guy to admit I’m troubled by this. I really enjoy going nude in public - at appropriate places, of course. However, I have observed without fail, I'm the absolute smallest I see. I went to a clothing optional resort this weekend to work on my tan and wherever I looked EVERYONE was hung better than me - and most by a huge (pun intended) amount. The little guy tends to “turtle” and this does not help my confidence.

Is it that swinger and nudist men tend to be on the larger side by self-selection? Are we of more modest endowment simply ashamed and less inclined to participate in those activities? I enjoy swinging and have never been (knowingly) penis shamed by others. I still can't keep the penis envy in the box. Let’s hear about your experiences and observations along with some words of wisdom to us "nominally-endowed" and "turtling-inclined" men.

My wife and I are in contact with another couple through the 3nder (now Feeld) app and are considering setting up a date with them. We have been having some great group conversations via text and have become more and more interested in them. The other night the couple nonchalantly mentioned that they have a newborn. Only 4 weeks old! Needless to say, we didn't see this coming. Their profile suggests that they are into most any type of play. The elephant in the room is what condition is her body in for play?? They specifically joined the app to find her a girl to play with but are also interested in couples they say. We are assuming she is producing milk and probably still healing from the birth. How can we be respectful in asking these questions and keep her from being self conscious? What other questions should we ask in this situation? Any advice from you "seasoned" swingers? :)

My partner and I are new to swinging and having, for the most part, a grand time. But, there is one trend we've noticed that we're interested in some clarification over: people having loud conversations about boring stuff in the play areas of sex clubs. My girlfriend (a petite, curvy 5'3" roller derby girl who I'm pretty sure is the "shawty" in all the songs and quite possibly the inspiration for "Baby Got Back") and I are exhibitionists and will be going at it and suddenly, I kid you not, a couple will come in, sit nearby, and start talking about work, traffic, doctor's appointments, blah blah blah, REALLY LOUD, thus annihilating our boners.

The people doing this seem like they're old hats at swinging, so we've got to know: is this a thing? What's going on? Is it acceptable to tell them to shut the hell up even though we're in a more public area, or are long time swingers just jaded with sex and loud boring chats two feet from people who are athletically fucking just a part of the scene?

My husband and I have been dabbling in the lifestyle for about 2 years now but our experiences have been very limited so we are definitely still newbies. We would love to explore more and go to more events and stuff but it is difficult. We have 2 young children and live in a very rural area. Swinging parties that we've come across take place later in the evening and usually an hour plus drive for us. This then requires an overnight sitter.

Did we come into this lifestyle at a bad time? Seems others that have children usually have older children so they have flexibility in going out that we do not. It gets very frustrating but honestly not sure there is much to be done about it. Any tips or thoughts? Should we just give up on this whole swinger thing for now?

On this episode we'll be discussing mental illness in non-monogamy with special guest Cooper S Beckett from Life On The Swingset podcast and www.coopersbeckett.com

Those of us in non-monogamous circles spend a unique amount of time relating with others in a very intimate manner. When we let go of the standard social narrative of one partner only and admit our desire for intimacy with multiple others, we often let go of many of the other social façades in place and talk more honestly and intimately about other issues in our lives. Issues such as mental illness.

Before we start, we'd like to say that none of us are mental health professionals or experts and are merely discussing our personal experiences and observations on the subject. If you are in crisis and need help, please seek resources in your local area.

All three of us here on the Swingset have occasionally dated and played independent of our partners, and all three of our partners have dated and played independent of us. A moment that can be tricky, especially early on in the swinging or poly lifestyles, is that moment of re-entry, where our partner (or us) returns from a date or play session. We take time to dissect how re-entry feels when you're the partner "left behind", and when you're the partner on the go.

We've talked a lot of bout community lately on the Swingset, and while we've specifically made the point that it's not enough to talk about diversity but to take action to seek it out, we've done a poor job of acknowledging that diversity includes diversity of racial background and we've contributed to a deafening silence around people of color in our communities.

We invited Ms Pomegranate and Mr BLK, two Baltimore, MD kink and sex educators, to join us to specifically discuss kink communities and and to discuss the experience of people of color in kink communities. Together, we hit what it can mean to feel ignored or erased when attempting to integrate into a community. We acknowledged that people of color have an extra threshold of acceptance. We discussed what makes communities safe, and what we can do to reach out and make communities feel safer to people of color and as a result, everyone. We discuss people who exploit safe spaces, and discuss what happens when an entire group takes a negative stereotype on behalf of a single bad actor. We touch on racial fetishes, assumptions surrounding them, and how without consent, racial fetishes dehumanize their targets, and how people can switch from fetish to racism as soon as they don't get what they're looking for.

If you're attending Woodhull's Sexual Freedom Summit on August 6th, Mr BLK and Ms Pomegranate are presenting on Different Shades of Kink: Questions of Diversity in Sex Positive Lifestyles (#SFSShades) and giving rope demos throughout!

How do you find other swingers? How do you find people to date? Those top a list of frequent questions we get on the Swingset. As outsiders looking in, as people curious to get started, we all wonder if we'll be able to do this, because there's that foreign concept in the middle. Finding people to fuck. Finding people to date. Finding people not just okay with open, but enthusiastic about it. Tonight, we talk about the pursuit, finding playmates, finding lovers.

Ginger, Professor, Miko, Ronin, Ophilia, and Cooper are out of the office this week. They've jet off to paradise in Mexico at Desire Resort and Spa for a swinging vacation, the third annual Life on the Swingset Takes Desire. With 160 people along for the ride, they've spent a week of hedonism, debauchery, and drunkenness that would make the Rolling Stones sit back and take note. On Thursday of their week long trip, they sat down to talk with a live audience of friends and lovers, and do a live podcast.

This is the result.
